We’ve had the above washer dryer since 2006.

In 2011 it developed a couple of faults and the water heater was replaced.
In 2012 the Temp Sensor NTC was replaced.
July 2013 – water heating element replaced.
May 2014 – water heating element replaced again!

Now machine had developed the same fault with getting hanging mid way through wash. Engineer this morning has diagnosed a faulty water heating element and checked the circuit back to the loom etc. to ensure all else is good!

I believe the May 2014 water heater may have been a generic rather than a Miele part, however to have 4 faulty water heating elements in 8 years seems more than just a run of bad luck! Not helped by each engineer saying “they never go wrong”.

Are there any known issues with Miele heating elements? Are we doing something wrong to kill the heater (mostly 40 degree washes, using branded liquid detergent, average water hardness, with a monthly boil wash to keep things sweet)?

I’m now minded just to scrap the Miele, and buy a mid-tier £400 simple washing machine that gets binned every 5 years when the warranty runs out!

Do you live in a hard water area? Perhaps the fitted generic element is not of good quality. Get engineer to check relay of heater also.
