    Hi all

Well I have a dishwasher that’s been suffering i30 errors – and it’s taken me a while to find out where it’s coming from. I have now found it – and it’s a pin sized hole at the bottom of the stainless tub! What amazes me about this is that the dishwasher is just 18 months old! In fact the model is still a part of their current range.

I pretty disgusted by this – and I will be in touch with AEG in the morning. Does anyone know if it can be repaired – or if this would be covered by the warranty (I think its 2 years – I need to check).

    #amazed!

Steel Putty from places like Halfords can be a solution. Both sides will need the application though to ensure a lasting seal.

Check if it is still under warranty first as AEG do provide a two year warranty 😉

A DIY repair now will render any future under guarantee claim invalid.

Are you sure nothing has dropped and cause the hole.

    Yes, quite.

I suspect that if it gets looked at which it probably will as most manufacturers would look at that as being unrepairable (i.e. not worth the bother) then it would possibly be viewed as being damage caused by the owner somehow.

The thinking being that, if there was a hole or defect there from new then it would have shown up long ago so, something must have happened to make it suddenly and magically appear all this time later.

The question that will be asked is, what caused it?

There’s no way that the machine can make a hole in itself so, that really only leaves them one possible route to explore for an explanation, some external factor.

Well I should have pointed out the hole is under the mesh filter. There’s no damage to the filter at all. On closer inspection I can see what looks like another pin prick hole forming. I suspect this is very poor quality / some defect in the stainless steel.

I phoned AEG this morning – and they said they could offer me repair and protect at £180 for the machine to be repaired. I fail to see how they can repair this short of replacing the whole tub. Then I have the concern that after the year of repair & protect has expired – how long will this tub last? So a £650 + £180 outlay for something that could last 3 years going by my experiences.

They do tend to use a good quality stainless on DW tanks, they need to.

    Or it’s plastic.

The top cause I’ve seen to cause that sort of thing is spilled salt directly onto the stainless. A chemical reaction takes place allowing stainless to corrode, irrespective of the quality of steel.

You can find instruction on it in most user guides and especially so for stainless cookware as it can be a real issue.

You are correct that changing the tank is the only real solution and, to be honest and blunt, it’s not worth the cost, time and effort to do that. They’d likely note it as being scrap, you’d get charged the call and a refund of the rest unless they were willing to try to patch it up.

Well I have to say it’s a pretty poor show… I’ve had a few dishwashers over the years. This one has a funnel for pouring the salt in, and it’s always gone in where it should. My last dishwasher (diplomat) was forever having salt spilled inside due to lack of said funnel. That went on for over 5 years without any such issues. I’ll bet there are countless consumers who similarly spill salt inside the tub, again without this issue ensuing after just 18 months. A cursory search of Google doesn’t bring up a swath of like minded complaints. Poor show AEG!
