Fridge freezer is around 9 years old, and up to now has been fine. Now the relay (JS1-B-12V-F)on the control module is clicking every 3-4 seconds continuously.
There is the noise of a fan running, which seems to momentarily slow down during the “click” of the relay, then carries on. The compressor is running OK, & the freezer / fridge are remaining cold (possibly too cold – not sure about that) I have read elsewhere that changing the relay can cure this, or changing the whole circuit board (15002616-01) But I realise that the problem could also be the defrost heater, the defrost sensor etc. I would like some guidance on what is the most likely thing to have failed, & what else to check -how to check – & where to find the various items that need checking. I am an experienced electronics engineer (retired), & have tools such as DVM etc. Hoping you can helpBob.

OK, Further to the above, I have removed the control PCB, & measured the resistance of the two thermistors.
The left hand one measures 167K, the right hand one measures 67K.
I have removed the panels covering the cooling element, & discovered it to be full of ice, so the auto defrost was not working.
The defrost heater has a reasonable resistance ie not open, & not short I think it was around 500 ohms, but not sure now.
There is a white plastic “box” on top of the cooling element on the left hand side, with 4 wires coming out of it. I don’t know what this is?
Two wires are yellow, & have zero ohms between them, the other two wires are blue, & also have zero ohms between them. the blue & yellow do not seem to be connected. What is this, & are my readings OK ?I have obtained a replacement relay for the control board, & will change this today while the unit is defrosting, & then will reassemble & try it tonight, but I must admit I am not optimistic that changing the relay will fix this. Any help would be appreciated.

Right. I removed the control circuit board, removed the relay, & checked it out. There was nothing wrong with it – very low on resistance, & open circuit when not energised. However, I fitted the new one anyway. I then checked out all the other components on the board which I could, ie. diodes, resistors, & caps all were OK. meanwhile the freezer was defrosting (there was a huge amount of frost on the cooling grid)
I measured the resistance of the two thermistors the one in the cooling grid measured 167K, the one in the freezer compartment measured 67K.
The thermal fuse (also mounted on the cooling grid measured 0 ohms.
Several hours later the freezer was defrosted, up to room temp. re-measuring the thermistors, they were both now at 13K, so nothing wrong with them. Replaced the circuit board, & re-fitted the panels over the cooling grid, & switched on. The fridge light is now working again, & but there was some 10 mins delay before the compressor started, then it was away. 3 days later it is still working just fine, with no “clicking”
I hope that is the end of the story, & maybe this will help others with a similar problem. I suspect that the “fix” was not changing the relay, but the disconnection – reconnection of the various connectors, & the manual defrosting.
