Our 21 year old Bauknecht fridge has worked fine up until recently…
Just lately it has not been cooling consistently.
It happily cools for a while and then warms up.
If we switch it off and on again using the fridge dial it kicks it back into cooling mode.
We are wondering if we need a new thermostat?

Probably not the thermostat, if that was gone then you’d get all or nothing.
Given the age it’s more likely to be a refrigerant system issue of some sort. By the sounds I’d guess at the compressor overheating and stalling but, it is a guess.
In any event, at the age, it’s really not worth doing much with unless you really, really want to keep it for some reason.
