ParticipantCan anyone answer why the local business map section of google has vanished and now there are just lists of websites rather than map locations?
If I google washing machine repairs flitwick then no map comes up.
If I google car repairs flitwick a map comes up.
Concerning because I had good google positioning when searching a variety of towns I cover previous to this.

Google change stuff all the time Tim, no warning, no explanation and often with seemingly little logic or reason.
You’ll give yourself an aneurism trying to work it out.
I expect though that if you look, you will find that a map will pop up showing relevant businesses that are based in that area only or close by. I’d suspect it’s to try to get rid of the people cheating the system by using local search terms to steal work from local businesses snaffle it for themselves or pass it back to local contractors for a fee.
A number of industries besides ours have suffered from such things so it wouldn’t be a shock if this was the reason for it as it helps prevent customers being confused or even duped into calling a national when they think they’ve called a bloke round the corner from them.
Funnily enough I was talking to someone in a completely unrelated business at the weekend doing his nut about that.

and dont forget google would much rather get you pay them to be on there search page especially on p1.
its there special way of saying — cough cough pay us or one of our seo partners and you will find yourself back up there.
also it may just be there’s not enough traffic ie specific search for the service and area for that map , unfortunately if google dont rate the search term high they prob wont show it
you can pay to be on maps – ie a sponsored spot maybe this way they would need to display your service and map

There’s nobody based in Flitwick hence why no map comes up. However you are shown on the Luton map and Google lists you as covering Flitwick so you’re well represented on there. Google is your friend.

It used to be (only up until last month) that a map would come up showing the business the most local to your search, rather than if anyone was actually based in the specific searched town. I would always be at the top for luton, flitwick, etc etc.
do you know how to and how much it Is to get back on a map on the first page.January 13, 2015 at 12:59 pm #423391funkyboogy
