The previous owner of our new house near Leighton Buzzard kindly left us an electric and a gas oven fitted into the kitchen units along with a hob.

    The hob works fine.

The electric oven works a lot better now I have cleaned the “glass” cover below the heating elements.

The gas oven smells of gas when lit and doesn’t heat up very well.
Both ovens have a rubber seal around the main doors which both have a gap in the top section. this gap has a chrome strip on the body of the oven.

I have contacted Stoves UK but they tell me that as the gas oven was made in 2002 it is beyond economical repair.

Can anyone suggest what options we might have other than throwing the ovens away and buying new ones please.
    Thank you for looking,
    Bern

    Hi

Unless a engineer attends then how can someone say it’s BER ?. When you light the oven does the flame stay low or does it go high after about a minute ?. Does the flame go right across the burner ?.

    Also the model would help

    Bryan,

Thank you for such a quick and helpful reply.
    Gas Oven
    Model: 05052203
    Serial No: 20460328
    BER = My thoughts too.
When turning on as per instruction manual with knob pushed in and turned up to 9.
Flame goes high after about a minute.
There is a consistent flame across the burner even when turned down to lower settings.
The section of seal which appears to be missing along the top edge in front of a chrome strip is 33cm long.

The section of door seal that appears to be missing along the top edge of the electric oven in front of a chrome strip is just under 7cm long.

    Hi

All of what you describe seems correct except the oven smelling of gas..or is it..is this the first time you have used it since cleaning it ?.

If it is gas you smell then you MUST stop using the appliance and turn it off or disconnect it and ensure that it is not leaking gas.

    Bryan,

Sorry for the delay in replying to you.

Yes you are right that was the first time we have used it since cleaning it. When I checked the height of the flame and the spread of the burn to reply to your former question the smell of gas had gone.

Can you please confirm that the gap at the top of the door seals should be there as it seems odd to me although there are those chrome strips where the gaps are. Wouldn’t this let the heat out or is it to let some air in?

    Re: Stoves Ovens help please

    Hi bern

The gap is so that there is not a build up of co and also allow air in to allow complete burning of the gas

    Bryan,

    Aha, the fire triangle!
I’ll take the piece of silver kitchen foil out then.

I’m still a bit puzzled by the gap in the seal around the doorframe to the electric oven but will now stop worrying.

THANK YOU for all your help.
