ParticipantHi all,
I am having some trouble with my Hotpoint WDL520 and I was hoping someone might be bale to help.
The washer part works fine but when it comes to a drying cycle (or the drying part of a full wash cycle) the washing comes out hot but steaming and sopping wet.
From other posts I have read it seemed the condenser isn’t operating correctly. I have opened the machine up and can see two water feeds, one gong to the heater element and the other going into the back of the drum area – so is the condenser is located somewhere within? If so how do I get at it to investigate?
Any ideas/thoughts greatly appreciated.Thanks
Dan

You will get this fault if the water inlet valve to the condensor fails. It can also be caused by a blocked condensor filter but that usually throws up an error message. The small gauze filter that often gets clogged up is actually the part that the first hose you mentioned is attached to at the rear of the heater box. Complete removal of the heater box needed to access for cleaning.
If you have two hoses going along the back of the machine then you should have the four solenoid cold fill valve. It is possible to test each solenoid with the correct test equipment. the valve assembly has to be changed as a complete unit unless you can find a good solenoid from an old valve. The outlet hose from the valve to the back of the drum is the one that is attached to the condensor valve, the other one is ‘supposed’ to flush the filter.

Thanks for your response.
It looks like three solenoids…? I took the pipe off the rear of th drum faring and there is cold water coming through, so the solenoid is working.
There is no error message.
I need to get some star drivers if I am to take the heater unit off.

As a test I did another drying cycle and noticed that the machine wasn’t draining whilst it did this. I took the waste water pipe out of the drainage pipe work (where it runs up the wall and does a U-bend into the drain) an ran it flat at floor level out of the utility room floor, and to my surprise it then successfully completed a full drying cycle! I put the waste water pipe back into the main drainage pipe and the washing came out wet again.
Could it be that the pump isn’t working properly, but if that’s the case how come the washing cycles drain?
Any ideas hugely appreciated as I am more baffled than before now.

Coul be a partial blockage in the sump hose or a failing drain pump, it may run for the short periods of the rinse cycles but fail during the long time it has to run on drying cycle.

You were right, partial blockage on the inlet pipe to the pump – long ball of the missus’ hair!
I put it all back together and it worked a treat, so a massive thank you!!
