ParticipantHi everyone, my 1st topic after joining UKWG forum this week.
I have seen threads from Partfinder users, so guessing someone will know the answer to this.
I intend to offer a repair / replacement service for Hotpoint/Indesit PCB’s, the problem it’s difficult to define what the customer already has.
A good example of this is WMD960, this machine is offered in 2 completely different variations, different shell, drum, motor, PCB ect ect, so very difficult to define what a retail customer has as far as the PCB is concerned. Even if I can determine the motor type I would still need to know the version of software both on the PCB & display so I can flash the replacement board with the correct firmware.
So my question, does partfinder work from serial no’s?

ne, even with serial numbers we still end up having to measure stator sizes other oddballs. Indesit have to be one of the worse manufacturers for changing seemingly irrelevant items that then reflect the software needed.
Maybe the version the indesit engineers use is better, I don’t know.January 17, 2015 at 6:08 pm #423721DWR_Bolton

OK thanks. It ain’t much use for me then, asking someone over the phone “can you tell if the case has a removable front or welded, induction or brushed motor, split or welded drum”. The only way would be by the part number on the PCB case making partfinder redundent for this purpose.
…..does partfinder list all the options for parts on a specific model?

…In theory, yes, but it’s not 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} reliable, and picking the right one can involve scouring through detailed generic technical notes, sometimes requiring detailed knowledge of Indesit control system development history.
For example, for WD440, the software is different depending on fill type (hot & cold or cold only), cold inlet valve type (3 way or 4 way) and motor type (52mm or 60 mm stack). The descriptions against the 4 different software versions listed (out of a theoretical 8 possible combinations of these hardware types) are not detailed enough to let you confidently pick the right one.

So what I do now is the only way it would appear, read the firmware from the old PCB & reflash the replacement. Eventually I will have all firmware tied to the PCB part no / machine model no.
I was hoping for a easier way, taking the laptop on site is a little slow but I shall have to do for now. -
