Hi,
I’ve recently moved into a property and the whirlpool cooker hood is not working. Based on conversations with the previous owner, I believe it’s a very old product which has been in the property at least 10 -12 years. I’ve tried changing the light bulbs to see if there’s some sign of life but nothing is working. Is it worth getting an engineer to repair or am I better off replacing and getting a new hood? It seems like a fairly obvious answer i.e. replace but I have no clue how much I could potentially be looking at to get a new one installed. I do have an idea of how much to expect for new cooker hoods though.
Also, how do I determine if the current hood is a re-circulation or extraction type? All I do know is that it’s a chimney hood as it goes up into the ceiling.
A response would be greatly appreciated.

make and model number of the existing one would be good, this can usually be found on a label by the motor.
If you remove the chimney stack and there is a large hose attached to the body it is ducted.
In the recirculating mode there is usually a large black filter on the end(s) of the motor.
