ParticipantHow Do
My parents have a Hotpoint First Edition DF51 dishwasher, quite an old machine now but from what i can gather it was when Hotpoint were re-badging Bosch machines so has been a good reliable machine for a lot of years.
Unfortunately over the last few weeks they have found that the cycle sticks at a certain point intermittently and will not go forward unless it is manually moved on.
The machine is an older-school mechanical timer based machine so my first thoughts were that the motor that runs the program dial may be failing/something is sticking in the mechanical timer or does this model of machine have enough smart to stop the time progressing if the water is not heating up? If this is the case im guessing the stand out things to check are Heater, Thermostat and timer – would i be right?
Due to the age of the machine (has to be a good 16-17 years old now at a guess) would you guys think it is worth fixing as i dont know if this is just a blip or if the machine is reaching the true end of life

Remove the outer door panel and check for broken wiring near the left hand hinge.
Machine will not advance if the water temperature does not rise to allow the stat to close. 😉

It is a well known failure point, sadly at this age its likely that the wiring harness is becoming brittle and any repair may only be a temporary fix. Harness is no longer available as a spare. 🙁

that is a bugger as its been a rock solid workhorse of a machine. Im guessing if i can get it working its worth advising my parents to start putting money aside to replace it then

It is the Achilles heel of most dishwashers, the wiring harness is flexed every time the door is opened. The older the machine the more likely the failure.

Aye i guess that makes sense
Cheers for all the help on this fella, my parents decided that getting 18 years out of the machine was good enough so are going to replace it instead of fixing it. Bit of a shame after all the years of reliable service but i think my mum likes the idea of a newer quieter machine
