ParticipantHi All,
Hoping for some guidance & help.
Looking to replace the Cooker + Hob you see in the Pics as a gift for my parents, for their detached house.
It is an all gas oven, grill & hob.
The electrical supply present, is only sufficient to run the timer and the ignition switches – but a power run can be added.
Please help me understand, how I should be approaching a replacement?
Users: 64 yr olds, enjoy banking roast chicken, turkey, veg and lamb from time to time. Rarely bake fresh bread, but a new cooker could open possibilities. They use the grill frequently (burgers, english breakfasts, sausages etc). Hob needs to remain gas.
My genuine thanks to any who can help me find a reliable unit.
Budget of around £700 – £900 pounds.
Apologies for the dirty pic! Took the pictures right after a marathon family gathering/meal just finished.
My genuine thanks in advance,
Lincon

“Elderly parents” both only 64…..ease off, us engineers eclipse that and take exception to being referred to as ‘elderly’ 🙁

No problems.
Regards the oven/hob you’d best contact a local gas installer who will be best suited to advise. 💡

Hi Lincon
I have resized your images and added them via the upload button which makes them more manageable to see 😀
So you have a twin cavity built under gas oven and a gas hob to replace?Belling, New World and Stoves are the only group who now sell these. The New World NW701GSS is a direct replacement for what is in there. Belling BI70GSS is a double oven which may make life easier for your parents to have a top oven. The grill in the Belling is an electric one though so you may need to investigate further with an electrician about a suitable supply.
Or you could replace with a double built under oven in all electric which would give you more choice, again a power upgrade would be required.
As for the hob there is a wide choice of 5 plate gas hobs out there so choice should not be a problem.
HTH 😀

Thanks Martin,
I should’ve mentioned that I will certainly be seeking the advise of a gas installer or two in person (eyes on survey first).
But I do feel I need some help in understanding the whole range of possibilities here first. Mulitple input, from those that have to deal with cookers when they go wrong is invaluable.
It would be very helpful to gain some insight from experts on the forums regards the key choices moving forward.
1.The key thing here is quality of use.
Gas or electric (& why if wiliing to share)
Which brands, (given the dimensions mentioned) would you be willing to recommend for your loved ones?
My genuine thanks to anyone that contributes.
Lincon.

Hi
Gas ovens have certainly gone out of favour with the public in the last few years. Whether this is down to the number of cooking progs on the telly, the increasing price of gas or the costly price of gas ovens or a combination of all three. As I said before there is only one group really now and even they have reduce the number of models in the last 12 months.
The most popular combo these days are electric oven with gas hob over.
When it comes to quality / ease of product and durability the Bosch range of built in appliances do take some beating. The two year guarantee is also a good benefit. Bosch have also won the Which best appliance brand for the last four years so they do know what they are about.
Your best bet is to visit your local independent electrical retailer who should be able to “package” all the elements you require.HTH

Absolutely fantastic info don,
Thank you so much.
I had my brother in-laws neighbour over to see about running an electrical supply for built-under double electric. A-OK, no probs with that.
Situation now stands as
GAS: Hob
Electric: Oven and grillHelp: side ‘Wall to wall’ space is exactly 55.6 cm (I.e width of mainbody of unit).
Can anyone recommend particular units from memory that would work in this space?
Thanks,
Lincon

Hi
Most manufacturers require a width of 560- 570 internal. That said Gorenje built under double is 548 wide but they require 562-565 internal width.
You are going to have to be careful in what you fit. If you don’t heed the manufacturers installation instructions you could invalidate your guarantee. Most manufacturers websites will give you installation measurements. You hard work begins now 😉
