    Hi all

I wonder if someone an help. We bought this fridge freezer many years ago and it served us well. When we had a new kitchen installed it came with a fitted fridge freezer. Rather than get rid of the Bosch we put it in a shed/outbuilding. It is brick built and has some insulation but I expect it does get pretty cold.

The fridge freezer has been there for several years and worked away without problem. It is useful as the storage capacity on the one in the kitchen is not very impressive. The fridge is handy for keeping beer and wine in as well as long lasting refrigerated items and the freezer useful for all kinds of things.

Just before Christmas everything started to defrost and the fridge temperature would not get cold. I have turned it off and on a few times but cannot get the freezer or fridge to chill. I am not sure that it gets any colder at all when switched on but guess I should test that with a thermometer.

I have started looking for a new one but there are a limited number of fridge freezers suitable for use in an outbuilding due to a change in manufacturer components.

Before giving up with my Bosch I wondered if there are any tips or tricks I should try one final time. I am thinking things like:

    * is there a master reset function I could try
    * does the tub at the back with liquid in it require emptying (don’t know what that component is called)
    * that container does not seem to easily move so I don’t want to force it and break it

When we bought it I think it was one of the more expensive FFs around. Bosch had a great reputation. It has been very good. It seems a great pity to scrap it if there is a simple way of getting it working so any suggestions or similar experiences would be much appreciated.

    Apologies for the long-winded essay.

    Thanks in advance.

Hi Aidan, Just Having A Look & Noticed Your Mail, Well Once Upon A Time These KG3201 Were Bullet Proof Around About Mid 90s + , . . .
Very Well Made , ….. right there are a few checks to carry out before I can instruct you with the parameter settings etc (by pressing certain top buttons) A: what sounds can you hear if any B: Opening the freezer door looking quickly at the fan housing impellor any movement C: Did the Bosch cooling slowly deteriorate or was it over a few weeks / days
let us know & hopefully I can diagnose the fault,
    ta john

    Re: Bosch KGU3201 stopped working

Brilliant to have you to help John.

I turned it off a while back when we realised everything was defrosting. Because we didn’t check it on a daily basis I am unsure how quickly it stopped working. It was really being used for keeping wine and beer cold, and overflow from what wouldn’t fit in our day to ay FF but really useful – especially for parties or having lots of family at Xmas etc.

When we turned it one again it just would not get cold. I am going to turn it on again in the next few days and report back on sounds and whether the fan in the freezer section is moving. Should I leave it on for say a minimum period of time (30 mins, 1 hour, 24 hours etc) before reporting back on sounds and fan movement?

    Many thanks again

    Aidan

    Re: Bosch KGU3201 stopped working

Hi Aidan, As Soon As You Switch On (All Doors closed)) Make A Mental Note Of All Sounds Etc,
Immediately Go To The Rear Bottom Carefully Listen To The Compressor,
    Is There A Continuous Hum Without Any Switching’s / Clicking’s Etc ,
Approx 15mins Run Your Hand slowly Around The Black Grill (Be Careful)
    ANY WARMTH & WHERE !. . . . After Recording All Symptoms / Notes etc ,
Leave it On & Running For 24hrs . . temp settings + 5c fridge & – 18c freezer , let me know how you get on , john

    Re: Bosch KGU3201 stopped working

    Hi John
Well I went down and turned it on. I did notice a few clicks and then it settled down. We set the temperatures as suggested and then after a short time it started making a terrible clattering nice form the compressor area. I was going to leave it for 15 minutes as suggested but was concerned it was unsafe to leave it as it definitely didn’t sound right.
I turned it off left it a few minutes and turned it on again. All seemed better until about 30 seconds later when the noise was even worse than the first time.
I am unsure if moving it around to get behind it has made things worse but will attempt to attach two files which capture the sounds once turn on.
    I am not hopeful!
    Thanks
    Aidan

ps have tried a few times but cant seem to upload video files…

Oh Dear That’s Odd , When A Compressor Fails In A Number Of Ways
It Should Not Be So Noisy That You Feel Its Unsafe, Ok On The Industrial
& Commercial Compressors These Can Be Deafening ! When Faulty
There Is Only A Compressor & A Diverter v/v (normally a Danfoss compressor) my email: coolliving@hotmail.co.uk ,john
