Hello, I’m fitting drum bearings to a Hotpoint WMA40, but I’m having trouble with the seal. The old seal has a deep recess where the spring goes; the new one has a much shallower recess which will not allow the seal to seat properly or may push it away as the spring is quite strong.
I’m wondering if I omit the spring what are the consequences.
    Thanks in advance

If you mean the large spring that fell out when you removed the old bearings and seal then that should all be thrown away, the new seal has its own spring inside it. That’s assuming you are talking about the bearing seal and not the door seal.
