ParticipantHi
I have a freestanding freezer Hotpoint FZA50 Model and It is building up ice on the bottom drawer and I clean the ice out by melting and scraping the ice out and after few days you can see the ice builds up again behind the bottom drawer , other than that the freezer is working fine. Please advice what could it be is the fan or compressor behind the freezer.
Thanks

The drain for the auto defrost will be blocked,
Ask someone to look after your food for you and turn it off for 48 hours and leave the doors open.
This should defrost the drain and cure the problem when you turn it back on.
If you get the same problem in a few weeks then you will need to get an engineer out as you will have a fault with the defrost system.

Thanks Bob for your reply I will place the food my next door neighbour freezer for 2 days and let it defrost and see how it goes.

Hi Bob,
Yes you were right, as the drain was blocked up with ice.I unplugged the freezer, food went to next door neighbour freezer, took. All drawers out and then remove the panel from the inside freezer, by taking out 2 bolt at top and 2 bolt just near the bottom area and I just slide it foward to take it off.
You can clearly see it was iced up and also it had iced on the bottom silver thing.
However it is all fine and no more ice since yesterday.
Thanks again.

If you get the same problem again it would be worth checking above the compressor drain tray at the back of the fridge to see if the rubber non return valve is sticking.
You can take it off and throw it away or trim it with a pair of scissors to stop it sticking together.

Hi Bob,
Thank you for your reply.I did check the tray at the back and took this out to clean the tray and the rubber was inserted into the hole under the freezer and it was tight to the compressor tray hole, I will then have to shorten it the rubber pipe so it is not touching the tray and leave about 1/2″ gap, so the water can drain freely into the compressor tray.
Thanks again Bob.

Hi
That’ll be either the defrost sensor or the fan motor ass not spinning.
