ParticipantHello,
my old bosch SMS4472GB started to play funny recently. It tends to stick in the middle of the washing cycle, and keep looping there.
If i touch the dial and just advance one bit then it completes the cycle fine.
It happens from time to time.
I managed to access the mechanical timer but everything looks very clean and not showing sign of rust or anything else.
Any suggestion what might be causing this behaviour?
I love this dishwasher i’d rather not let it go…
Many thanksFebruary 23, 2015 at 7:11 pm #424938Martin

The problem will not be with the timer. The timer is controlled by several components that ‘advance’ the timer once their function is completed ( i.e. Water level microswitch on filling. Thermostat on reaching temperature etc).

it sticks in the middle of the wash cycle..
fills water fine, starts to wash and when it reaches the middle hangs there.
There is no operation that is performed there (when I advance it nothing else happens, it just starts moving by itself again)February 23, 2015 at 7:52 pm #424940Martin

Is it heating the water?

Yes the coil warms up fine…
It stops when is loading the spring of the tablet release… like needing a bit of helpFebruary 24, 2015 at 3:15 pm #424942Martin

I refer to the water heating element not the dispenser. Is the water getting hot?

yes the water is getting hot
and it also dries the dishes fine (heats up quite a bit)February 24, 2015 at 6:54 pm #424944Martin

Wiring harness adjacent the door hinge, sticking float microswitch and safety-inlet valve all can cause similar symptoms.

Hi and thanks
I inspected the wiring harness, its ok and not brittle.
I changed a bit the curvature and put some padding to prevent heavy bending.
No idea where is the safety inlet valve or the float microswitch, I did a try run and it appears to perform ok, i will keep an eye to figure out what is the problem..February 26, 2015 at 7:43 pm #424946assasukasse

Hello
I ran a cycle with the machine open today to check what could be the problem.
Water fills fine and cycle starts (I started program 3)
After program 4 machine empty water and refills
Moments later detergent tablet is released and washing cycle starts.
Machine heats water fine but program hangs just before the mid of the washing cycle
At this point machine loops
If I move program one tiny click forward then the machine completes everything by itself..
Was wondering if temp sensor is dead and doesn’t say OK to continue cycle…
I tried to short the thermostat but nothing happens…February 27, 2015 at 7:29 am #424947Martin

You’ve used that term twice now. What on earth is “loops?”

Looping=Keeps repeating indefinitely…
I also noticed that the motor running the timer stops and the program hangs in that particular spot
Can’t do much without an idea of what is what, a flowchart or at least a circuit diagramFebruary 27, 2015 at 9:54 am #424949Martin

The timer restarts only when the thermostat makes the connection. Thermostats on these are pretty reliable so it could be a connection failure between the two (wiring harness maybe?) 😀

Hello Martin and thanks
I have noticed that it happens only on program 3, program 4 works fine (I did not try program 2).
I will double check again the wiring harness, it really looks fine but it might be a cable broken inside (in that case it will be hard to figure out as they are sleeved in a gray plastic)February 27, 2015 at 5:12 pm #424951Martin

You can at least check both ends as they are conveniently colour coded:D
