We’ve just bought a Rangemaster Classic 900 cooker with electric oven and ceramic hob. Having previously had a regular 4 burner gas hob we opted for the ceramic just because we thought it looked neater and would be easier to keep clean, without giving it much more consideration.
When the electrician put in the new supply cable he was surprised to discover it was 14.8kw, which would draw 60amps from the supply. As the main fuse in the meter box is only 80amps he was a bit concerned about overloading the supply if we were to be cooking on all rings, then attempted to boil the kettle, have a shower, etc.
As you’ve probably guessed I’m not an electrician so am a bit alarmed that there is such a risk with what I thought was a relatively regular domestic appliance. I’ve been advised to hold a spare 80amp fuse just in case.
    Does alll this sound correct?
Has anyone else experienced such problems?
    Am I worrying unnessessarily?

    Dot

A standard 4 ring cooker will drawer approx 11kw if ALL the elements was used at the same time.

It would be ussual for 3 rings and say an oven on which would use approx 6.5kw.

Most modern houses now have consumer units rated at 100amp plus some even 2 units to cope with modern day living demands.

There has been no problems that I am aware ofwith these ovens as long as they are installed correctly.

    Hope this helps
