ParticipantHi all,
I have a SMEG SUK62MFX5 duel fuel cooker. In the past I have replaced both the thermostat and the element.
This week the main oven has developed a fault where it will not switch on. 🙁Im guessing its thermostat or the element.
can anyone help?February 27, 2015 at 10:53 am #425159don

Hi
If there is no life at all in the main oven it could be that the timer is set to auto.

We have switched of the oven and left it for a while to reset the clock. Still no life in the oven. (orange light does not operate nor does the fan)

In that case if the clock is set and showing a time, then it’s time to either start testing components with the power off of course :zap: or you enlist the expert services of a local engineer.
As this is a dual fuel cooker my recommendation would be the latter option.
If you need an engineer you could try our find an engineer facility here

Any pointers on what to look for? measurements to take etc..?
I did read an previous thread mentioning a loose spade connector being the culprit.February 27, 2015 at 11:31 am #425163kwatt

It’s most likely to be one of the overheat thermostats that’s failed.
This is the upper one: http://shop.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/81873055 … thermostat
Mounted at the top rear right looking from the front and appears to be for the top oven/grill.
The one for the fan oven is this one: http://shop.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/81873056 … thermostat
It is mounted on the right hand side rear and looks to be almost directly below the other one but on the external of the lower oven cavity, may be obscured by insulation but you’ll see the wiring to it.

The clock or the main oven function switch are about all that’s left really or at least, all that’s left that could give the symptoms anyways.

Thanks.
I’ve seen in another thread about bypassing the clock. Is this a workable option? (I’ve never used the clock or timer function)March 9, 2015 at 11:17 pm #425167kwatt

Possible but highly inadvisable as much beyond a short term fix.
For obvious safety reasons, i.e. giving a shock or setting the machine on fire, we can’t really explain how you would go about that.

OK so I think I have found the reason for the failure. The main over switch selector has lost one of the little spring connectors (second from the left) – see picture.
is this the part I need?

Yes, that is one that is used on the rightmost position of the two selectors.
The other, leftmost position, is this one: http://shop.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/81173024 … rol-switch
