    Morning Guys

Moved fridge from one location to another now each time it is plugged in it trips the house circuit breaker RCD

Having searched on this forum and youtube i have carried out the following continuity tests and readings from the multimeter

disconnected heater defrost element fridge then powers up, but the fan, compressor etc does not run

continuity test set to bleep, on the fan i get a reading of 232 but no audible bleep from the multimeter 😕

continuity test again on the defrost heater element i get a reading of 86 but again no audible bleep from the multimeter 😕

continuity test carried out on the thermal cut off after having put it in another fridge freezer we have to prove if it works, i get a reading of 0 and the multimeter bleeps. I have then proceeded to warm up the thermal cut off i then get a reading of 1 and no audible bleep

Any ideas what could be at fault? or is there anything else i could test?

    Cheers

Compressor will not run with defrost element disconnected.
If the fridge has been turned off for any length of time it is possible that moisture has got into the element which is causing the rcd to trip.

To be absolutely safe you could remove the element and bake in a low oven for a few hours.
You will need at least a 500v insulation tester to check it before you put it back.
Should read at least 2 megohms.

Or just put a new one in

I just have a basic multimeter 🙁 what would be the purpose of checking before i put it back in?

Is it safe to say that the fan and thermal cut off is okay?

Basically so that you know it’s safe and will work.

If you don’t have or know how to use test equipment then I would advise that you get professional help.

Morning Steve, I followed your advice regarding warming up the element, connected it back up, the fridge is now running! 😀

However it is not getting cold enough 😥 , the compresssor, rear fan and fridge freezer fan is running as well as ice forming on the condensor. When powered up the front panel bleeps it goes off when i press the bell button but i get a — dash dash sign on the freezer display panel and cannot adjust the temp!

    What could it be now?

The temperature display will not show any numbers and you can’t change the settings until the freezer gets down to -18c.
Give it a couple of hours to settle down.

The fridge side shows the temp though on the display but not the freezer side, ive read on this forum that it could it be the dreaded fault with the rear pcb capacitors???

Re: Whirlpool S20BRSS31-A/G American Fridge Freezer Tripping

    Check list

    Compressor running.
    Cooling fan running.
    Circulation fan running.
Take off lower grill and hoover out fluff.

    Still not cold?
Look at the evaporator which should be frosted for most of its length.
If not then you have a system fault which is not a DIY repair.

    Steve
