ParticipantGentlemen,
I am British but now live in France. The house has central heating – by no means the norm!! -. It is powered by an Ideal Standard R2100 boiler.
(I know you know this, but, for the avoidance of doubt) Ideal standard in France is a division? of American Standard and has little, if anything, to do with the UK guys who make bathroom ware.
The timer’s/controller unit’s (part RA1010) clock had ceased to function before we bought the house. We have been given some very cheerful quotes to replace the timer unit. All at about £400 or so. Damn boiler can’t have cost much more!!
Would be grateful for any advice in sourcing said timer. Better yet to be able to buy it direct from you.
Many thanks in advance

Hi
Have done this already….solves a short term problem
The timer is a bit more complicated than that. It allows separate day and night temps and can differentiate different outside sensor trips.
Not just a timer.
Thanks

ParticipantWell to get a controller with *outside* temp input wil be serious money- this kind of optimisation system is generally used only in industrial setups- unless that is you just mean it’s got a frost-stat?
there are plenty of time-programmable ‘stats available these days; I can heartily recommend the Digistat 3 from Drayton. Different temps for different times of day, a night-time setback, and (IIRC) in-house frost protection even if you switch the system down say, for a vacation…

There are several ways to accomplish that sort of system, most notably used in HA (Home Automation) sytems. Honeywell’s Smartfit system is one such device that is used extensively in the UK/EU, other than that most I’ve seen are either country specific, US or horrendously expensive.
In this case I’d suspect that it was a proprietory system unique to that manufacturer. I am certainly not aware of anything else with that sort of spec on the market and I had to get an RCS stat system a few years back that integrates with my X10 system, which with some clever computer jiggery pokery, reads and reacts to outside air temps and weather conditions as well as allowing extensive programming and monitoring options.
Most of those type of systems are very expensive in relation to the boilers due to the additional electronics, sensors and installation time.
Although, you can make it as clever as you like, if the pilot light blows out and doesn’t come back on you’re still goosed! 😉

Thanks all for the advice.
DPM: yes, I did just mean that it has a frost stat. One external and One internal. Sorry for the lack of clarity.
Which is why a simple timer is a problem. The system uses fuel oil to power it and, if the timer is between the electric mains and the unit, as it is now, then when the power is off, the frost stat doesn’t work as the unit needs power to light up the fuel. Unlike gas which has a pilot light.
Ah well, guess I’ll have to continue my searches here in France.
Again, everyone, thanks for trying
Regards

u can wire a frost stat to override the timer it can be a normal t/sta set low its very easy with right know how but not a job 2 experiment with a good electrician should be able to help

ParticipantYup, Frost-stat in parallel with timer…

Moved to “general enquiries” from “dishwasher support” 😉
