I went to a Whirlpool built-in oven, AKZM754/ix (852575438002). It was randomly going out of control and heating to 400 degrees, then the TOC would trip. The guys from Wh….l had been six times, changed the two front panel controls twice, ripped off the customer and given up. On my first test the grill element went to red heat before I had even turned the oven on! So having meggered all elements and everything else (all OK), it was obviously the control board (I hate these all-electronic ovens!) So I changed it. Fine, except as soon as I fired it up, an “F3” fault showed up. Looking this up (in several places) it said “Temperature probe (RTD) open circuit” So I fitted a new one. The same fault of “F3” still showed up. I then checked the resistance of both new and old probes and these were both correct (1078 ohms).
I have checked every component, including the wiring to the probe of course, and can find no fault, so what now????
It could be a duff control board (the new one)??
Does F3 indicate anything else on this oven?? Does the board need configuring??
Any advice appreciated.Many thanks guys (hopefully!)

My grateful thanks to Johnmac11 who sent me configuration data. This solved the mystery completely, as the board will show an “F3” fault if you fail to configure it after a set period of time. I am disgusted that Whirlpool do not at least put a warning note in with the replacement board that it has to be configured, and after numerous and thorough searches I did not find one reference that told me the board had to be configured. All references I found stated that F3 denoted an open-circuit heat sensor probe!
