ParticipantAfter using our main oven last night the heater element did not switch off after turning the knob back to zero on the cooker as normal. The fan and light had switched off, but the overn continued to to heat up. Any ldeas as to whats gone?? Is it the thermostat, heater element or the main switch??
Any ideas will be much appreciated as we had to turn the cooker off using the main fuse switch.March 10, 2015 at 10:24 am #425449iadom

Main switch??? Basic parts diagram only shows a main oven control which is the thermostat. It doesn’t show a switch for changing between functions which is what would be called a main switch.
It does point towards the main oven thermostat failing.March 11, 2015 at 2:44 pm #425450stickybudd

Apologies…let me re-phrase the first post. The fan oven continues to heat up, after the the temperature knob is returned ( for example) from 180 deg to zero… The only way to switch the oven off was using the “ring main” switch on the wall.
Having read the reply, I’m guessing the the thermostat knob is the root cause/concern and needs replacing.Any idea on part cost, availability and whether this can be done by myself or will need an engineer etc??
thanks for your assistance with this…

Not at home ATM to look up part numbers etc, stat not expensive but not a simple DIY fix. Both sides have to be removed and complete hob has to be released and moved to the side.

Part number is a C00229478, cost around £25.00. You could try the ‘Find an Engineer’ facility using the SEARCH link at the top of the forum. A well built cooker which should have plenty of life left in it.
