Loads of Merloni tech’s. as well as ex-Merloni
May I ask a couple of questions:-
1 Where is the support that you are supposed to enjoy from British Gas?
2 If you are successful in getting an answer from this medium, how are you going to tell your employers? I’ve been reliably informed it is a disciplinary offence to even browse these pages if you are a B.Gas employee, let alone make postings.
If one of my engineers hits a problem, he asks his colleagues, and then phones the relevant technical department of the make he is repairing.
We, being my company, make a point of not attending a product we do not have the full expertise, and most importantly the access to manufacturers back up. If that is not available to us, then we have no business attempting the job, or we can cut our losses & run. You have not got that luxury with B. Gas, which is where they take the money from the consumer, and they are obliged to come up with the goods. Their problem I’m afraid.
Sorry to sound no negative, but it tickles me pink, the likes of us are used as a training ground supply organisations like B.Gas with engineers, then we are looked upon for help. I know this does not help you as a humble engineer, but I suggest you pass the buck back to your managers; that is what they are there for!
Please do not be offended by my posting, I can see you are trying to solve a problem, and coming on here during a weekend in order to do so indicates your level of commitment in your job.
Regards
Alex

You bloody cheeky git.
No1. Don’t try and get into a slanging match with me. You will either lose or I will leave it open ended with you looking an idiot.
No 2 Caps lock is indeed shouting, which you seemed well aware of, yet made quite a point of the fact you had done it.
No 3 Yes it is a two way street. Yet when it comes to your employers poaching our staff with hollow promises, you then castigate me on these pages. I don’t know how you expected any one of us to react when we get a question that seems to be a matter B.Gas are not able to answer? The fact you are doing this on the Q.T. would not be looked at favourably by your present employers in any case.
No 4 I do have full manufacturers back up, along with many others who are active on this site. I suggest before you make wild statements as below, you do your research.

U GUYS CRACK ME UPThe above I feel was totally uncalled for. If this is the way you deemed your previous employer prior to your present employment, then he is better off without you.
I run a business with 12 staff, working 7 days a week and I’ve been on this terminal all day dealing with accounts and other matters. Contrary to your flippant remarks, putting in such hours is due to being a manufacturer’s agent and that staff and myself are gainfully employed. In fact overworked, not as you put it, “You don’t do much business then”
I think I make myself clear, and sincerely hope I do not have the need to add any more on this issue. By the way, a few English lessons on your part wouldn’t go amiss.
Have a Nice Day
Alex

KeymasterGuys, chill out a bit eh?
Funky, after many, many times being shafted by BG poaching staff there are a lot of guys in the independent trade more than a little jittery on the subject. Combine that with the fact that BG often come back to us looking to get bailed out when they’re in the s*** and you have a strong resentment towards them, is it really any wonder? And is it any wonder that the indies are reluctant to help BG given that BG have dropped us all in it at one point or another.
And now we hear that BG employees are being “discouraged” from even being on this site, hardly what you’d call fair play is it?
So, when we get asked to help out BG the general response is that they made their bed, let them lie in it.
However I see no reason not help in this instance but you’d probably be better to get your mate to sign up to UKW, if he’s an indoe then there’s loads of help on here.

U GUYS CRACK ME UPfunkyboogy,
We are indepted to you sir for your frank and open appraisal of your present employer, British Gas. Thanks also must go to you for your help regarding certain technical publications we may have since acquired through your generosity.
Indeed should I have been fortunate enough to have had the technical back-up from The Indesit Company at my disposal, I may well have been able to share that knowledge with you and help in the matter of the errant Ariston in question! Sadly that is not the case and I suspect the problem will have to be dealt with by yourself in the way that we in the independant service trade are faced with at this present time, namely by taking a calculated guess at the conundrum 🙁
Do please also take heed my respected colleagues here on UKW who have taken the time and replied so eloquently in their many postings in the fervent hope you may take to heart their sincere advice.
May I conclude by wishing you and your British Gas colleague Arch every success in the future, ( by the way,I hope British Gas didn’t manage to spot your email addresses lest there be any repercussions 😉 ) for you as a Trade Member it is hoped you will continue to enjoy the many and varied facets this website can provide, it’s such a shame we could not help you in this instant 🙁
