Hi all. This is a weird one and may sound like a pre April fool joke but it is nothing of the sort.
The problem was not pumping h2o up into water container. Dismantled float/pump chamber and found that the 1)float HAD SHRUNK TO 1″ SQUARE and 2)the pumps red rubber impellor had started to decompose and was falling to pieces……easy one to cure fault and that is to order up and fit a c00260640 pump kit.
Questions is how can a polystyrenne float shrunk down to an inch squre and remain intact and be more or less a picture carbon copy of the size of the original float but more dense? I asked the chap is anyone on any medication/ something weird, off beat, perhaps like skin problem creams only to be told that his youngest son is under going radio therapy ( poor little boy ). Putting two and two together it is something to do with this, Ah but in what way? And if it indeed is why is the washing machine`s door seal, I checked, look normal/is normal? Anyone ever come across this before please?

    Iadom posted this:

I have had one or two instances of the polystyrene float shrinking to about 1/4 of its original size, becoming hard, like a small biscuit and useless as a float.

One was in a beauty salon so I suspected that the creams and lotions they were using could have caused it, the other one was in domestic use and I didn’t really pin down the cause but it has to be some sort of chemical reaction.

I have seen pump impellors fall off on many occasions though.

    Jim.

Hi Jim. Yes a small hard biscuit sums it up wonderfully which is what I had.
The impellor`s rubber fell to pieces, no strength to it at all; all very odd.

It is something I have seen on rare occasions, one other one was a bloke who was a fitness fanatic and I suspect some of the rubs he used in his warm ups had a chemical reaction with the float.

Yes thanks for your replies. I`ve dropped the customer a note with various suggested causes, not that I suppose they`ll bother to read it, but at least I have done what I said I would do to help them. Thx again. Andy
