ParticipantHotpoint New Edition 1200 spin probably around 1999/ 2000 model.
The ‘prog end’ and ‘active lights’ flash around half way through the cycle. If I switch it off and on again at the power, I can move it to spin and it will spin but it won’t do this automatically. We moved it recently to check where a foul smell was coming from. Any ideas?

Correct model number would help, look inside the door or on the door hinge.

I think it is the WMA11PR

WMA11P is most likely.
Those lights flashing suggest a fill problem but it may be that the machine is clogged up inside. There is a sump filter inside the large black drain hose under the drum that can become blocked with all sorts of rubbish, ( none of which should actually have been in the machine in the first place TBH)
This would be the first place to check, also smells are usually caused by prolonged use of liquid detergents combined with constant low temp washes.

Thanks for the advice iadom, I’ll have a look when I can get my husband to pull the washer out and let you know what I found. Is it a problem to keep using it?
I boil wash at least once a week and think the smell is to do with other plumbing issues but thanks again for the advice.April 1, 2015 at 3:41 pm #426181iadom

Would you keep on driving your car if you had warning lights flashing on the dashboard, no point in waiting until further damage is done.;)

Fair comment, I’ll refrain until it is sorted out 🙂

If the sump is completely clear then it could be a fill valve failure.

Only just managed to check it, there is no filter by the look of things but it has water in it. I wonder if it is a selector problem as it only happens when it is supposed to go to the final spin on the programme. I can do this manually and it works fine.

Did you remove the large black sump hose completely, the filter cage sits inside that. The pressure chamber is also part of that assembly, it has a thin tube attached to the top, this can also get clogged up with gunge.

No, it was full of water so my husband wasn’t sure about removing it in case we were flooded. Will have another look at the weekend when he has time. Thanks for you help 🙂
