ParticipantHi guys,
Just bought a new drum seal for the above after watching a few vids.
Of course my model doesn’t have a removable face plate it splits in two after what looks like extensive dismantling. So, the question is does anyone know the quickest/best way to remove the seal?
I have contemplated trying it without removing the front half but not sure about access to refit around the concrete block.
If I have to split does anyone know which screws need to be removed? I can potentially see feet brackets, 2 screws centre of the plastic base, and a white plastic insert(?) at the bottom where the 2 sections join, that doesn’t have any screw access so does it just prise out?
TIA
Baz

You have no idea just how amusing or daft most of the trade members find the ‘online vids’ :rolls:
An experienced engineer would fit this seal from the front without removing any panels. Using his/her skills built up over many years. 😉
You need perseverance, extreme patience and very strong wrists and fingers, there are no magic tricks.

I think I’m about to fail on all counts then!
Even with the unit tilted back to get more drum access I can’t see an easy way to get my fingers in the gap between the drum lip and the concrete weight.
Out of curiosity I called Electrolux and got quoted £120 as a start point for the repair. I might just as well buy a new machine for £300 and not worry about any future problems.

Wedge the spring at 12 o’clock, feed the spring round stretching and wedging as you go. That’s it job done.

Do as tim says, personally I put a tiny amount of washing up liquid in my hands and lubricate the spring

I will give it a try but I’m going to decide on a replacement machine first, if I cant do it I’ll just get a next day delivery.
Even with the machine on it’s back and the door off giving more work space I still cant see how I will get my (fat!) fingers into the gap inside the block but nothing ventured etc.
I really don’t want to concede defeat because other than this it runs OK for a 7yr old machine but equally it’s a bit like a fridge you cant be without one for more than a few days.

As said there’s no easy way. Most of us have fitting these for years so comes as second nature. It’s done mostly by feel

I find it helps if you lubricate the seal with a little soapy water (Fairy liquid) on the seal lip. Then it’s easy ( even with chunky fingers) 🙂

To replace the spring I slot a long screwdriver through the door lock hole until it touches the inner drum, position the end of the screwdriver inside the spring and then you have two free hands to feed the spring around the seal.

I use nothing more than washing up liquid and my fingers. 5 mins tops start to finish.:)
