ParticipantHi there, hoping for some help please.
Friday night machine started having issues. In a cycle it would drain OK, fill with water OK, and when about to start spinning I would hear a click and the motor would attempt to turn and then stop.Machine is about 5 years old. Took it apart and located motor. Managed to get new brushes for it yesterday and fitted them myself. Put it all back together and still having the same issue 🙁
Suspect it could be a control board issue / electrical. Any ideas please? Is this something I can do myself – or am I out of my depth now.
Cheers!

Likely as not the brushes didn’t need changing. They were probably worn but not enough to be a problem in this instance. The fault could be an earth leak of the heater? (Only checking with an insulation meter would do to test the heater.)
It’s an Ozzie machine so I guess you’re down under in more ways than one cobber…maybe?

Aye, your right, we’re in NZ, been here now for 11 years and from blighty originally 😉
The old brushes were worn down, about half the length of the new ones, hence I thought changing those would solve the issue.
I’ll take another look today at the wiring and see if I can find anything amiss. Am wondering if it does need a new control board if it’s worth it for a 5 year + machine, or whether I just go buy a new machine and get the warranty.

Can’t rule out the control board at this stage but my money is on the heater being at fault. Also the air chamber needs checking to see if it is all clear while your at it. A local repair guy could do all that for you anyway. 💡
Kia ora!

Cheers Marin for your advice. I gave up in the end! Our washing just kept piling up, and with not being able to get anyone out until At least Tuesday / Wednesday this week, I bit the bullet and brought a new machine this morning.
Have put the old up up for sale. Perfect for someone who knows what they are doing and wants to make some cash.
