    In December 2012 I bought an LG washing machine costing me around £600
    It had 2 years warranty, which we did not renew.

    Since the last 1 month we have had an issue with noises during the drain cycles.
    After some reading it is a common issue with a couple of the pumps that cost around £30 as parts to replace (excluding labour).

    I have called LG and they have obviously stated I am out of warranty so a call out would be at £90 and then depending on what needs to be done, it would be charged extra…

    I have had a look online and read the good sales act, which I am a little confused about.
    Should I expect a £600 washing machine to have an issue 2.4months into its life and if not, can I request LG to repair it under the good sales act?

    any action should be directed at the retailer who sold you the appliance. the argument goes something along the lines of “not of merchantable quality” or “not fit for purpose”
    its based on the idea that a resonable person should expect a machine of this type to last longer

    but beware if upon inspection if there is a coin or something in the pump it will be deemed to be your fault

    i suggest you look on this forum for a local engineer and get a quote from him. it will be a lot cheaper than £90 call out

    You can try it but, I’d very much doubt you’ll get anywhere as this is likely to be viewed as just a simple failure and, as Dave rightly points out, if they find anything in there then the fault would lie with you anyway, without doubt.

    And, like Dave, I’d advise to try finding a local repairer to do it a lot cheaper that LG will.

    Oh come on guy, you bought a washing machine not a garden statue. It’s a mechanical device that endures the stresses and strains, use and abuse. Mechanical devices by their very nature can break down, at any time. The price you pay has no bearing on how, when or why it fails.

    You, like thousands before you, quote the ‘Sale of Goods Act’ when things go wrong. Go read it again, then realise you are up the proverbial creek.

    Give your local guy a bell to get it sorted, that dirty washing is building up behind you! 😉 😀
