ParticipantOk I’m small single man operation, I work hard and constantly thinking about opening a shop but in the meantime I could still sell a number of appliances a week without having a shop but both DAD & Portway make it impossible for me to do so as I don’t have any kind of access.
I get to a customers house. Bearings/Needs gas/obsolete parts whatever
so they ask me can I supply a new machine… Ummm Well yes.. How Much? what can you get? I Dont know .. Why because I don’t have internet access to there stock, prices Bla Bla..First thing customer does as I walk out of the door is picks up there phone and searches the internet and orders a new machine from currys or AO..
I call customer with a price and they have already ordered. Ok I get my call out but would like to sell them a new machine..
Dose anyone else hove this problem or an answer.. Maybe John at portway or a director of dad may read this..

Try Swift Electrical on 01782 748900 you can buy over the phone with a credit/debit card and they deliver to most places once a week no minimum order fee either. They support the WTA with a stand at the September Trade Show ~ nice people to deal with ~ Ian

Hi Simon
We help out sole trading engineers who like you have no shop or good access. It may be worth contacting a local indie retailer and see if you can negotiate a discount. Knowing what your retailer stocks you can talk to the customer and phone your supplier for a price there and then.

We can supply you with appliances Andy should you need them. We would charge you the cost price plus 10{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} plus VAT, paid upon collection.
These could be a suggestion in negotiations for you as well Simon.

I tend to use Swift or Portway, I ask for their driver to phone my mobile about 1/2 hour before they arrive so I can get back to take the machines in, or they leave it in my garage which I unlock and I get back very soon after.
It works for me, I have not had a problem yetApril 28, 2015 at 3:02 pm #426866Andy jones

TED (Hughes Electricals) offers whitegoods at trade prices, I found them cheaper than the usual suppliers. They have bigger buying power and have been able to get huge discounts on the appliances. You can even apply for credit account.
This are dependent if you near to one of many branches. I happen to live between two branches and have a really good relationship with them.

Swift works well for me, delivery twice a week & they leave the machines in my garage as I’m generally out.
To be fair it is becoming more and more difficult to compete. Ao.com aren’t helping!
I generally keep a few washing machines in stock as well as an integrated dishwasher.

Brilliant. Thanks for your help. Managed to get a intergrated wm from dad just had to pay the delivery charge. Will look into swift and others as i have been losing out on 4 to 5 sales a week. Mainly on built in stuff.. hopefully dad will deliver ect with no problems. Pain in the ass delivery charge as the driver goes past my door twice a Week. like 3 meters way from my front door. But had to order this as its contract work for a big letting agent. Lets hope they pay on time..

Hi Simon,
I’ve used Swift for many years,I’m in Puddletown, deliveries Monday and Wednesday with no charge, good drivers and always ring an hour away. Giving up now as knees have gone but would recommend them any day.
PM me and if I have any old customers in Weymouth I can give them your number.

Sent you a pm robbra
Today’s update is DAD are delivering me a B/I WM 🙂 and I’m getting web access
Swift Gave me an account today but PORTWAY just don’t seem to want to open an account or even have the decency to reply to my email.. Oh well Looks like I will stick with DAD and Swift not that i’m selling much at the moment but do like to dream. As far as I remember BDC went bust and we used to us HI-Way for small appliances.. Mad how much you forget when working alone. I expect all the reps have moved around again,
