ParticipantHi my fridge freezer has stopped working, the fridge light is still on but it will not freeze or cool in the fridge. It sounds like it is still running(Motor/Compressor)
Any ideas what the cause is and can it be fixed by me?April 29, 2015 at 9:44 am #426875TechSmart

Hi Libbo2003,
How old is the machine? If the compressor is running then it will be worth checking the condenser. This is usually at the back of the machine, or sometimes underneath and usually with a fan. This is where the heat gets dissipated to cool your fridge. If the condenser is blocked with dust or not getting enough air flow then it cannot get rid of the heat and cool the machine.
However if that is all clear then it could be that you have a refrigerant leak and you would need to use a local appliance engineer for that.
Hope this helps.

Hi Techsmart thank you for the reply, the fridge is less then 10 years old, when the machine is running I can hear the usual humming sound, plus when I had it on the quick freeze switch in the on position it seemed to try and freeze up a little but not enough to keep items from slowly de-frosting?? hope that will help abit more.

No problem. Definitely sounds like the cooling system is struggling. Did you check the condenser?

The part in red on the back is the condensor.

Feel if it is warm, see if there are any airflow restrictions or anything that could be stopping it dissipating it’s heat.
