ParticipantHi all!
New member/first time poster, so please treat me gently if I’ve missed any etiquette protocols!
Basically, I’ve heard this is a great forum for seeking advise regarding washing machine purchases, so hoping someone might be able to offer some useful advice…
My girlfriend is in receipt of disability benefit, so doesn’t have a lot of money to play with. Unfortunately her washing machine has gone kaput, so I’m hoping to find a decent replacement on a low budget. I’m helping with the cost, but don’t want to go much above £200 at this point, if at all possible! She doesn’t need anything flash, but does need something reliable and efficient, that will survive two-three loads (two people’s worth of clothes) per week.
I’ve done some research and it seems that Bosch are generally thought of as a good make for the lower end of the market, so at the moment I’m tending toward purchasing the BOSCH WAB24161GB, which is currently available from Curry’s for £229 – http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/household-appliances/laundry-dishwashers/washing-machines/bosch-wab24161gb-washing-machine-white-10004685-pdt.html#cat-0
Can anybody please offer relevant feedback on this? I’ve never had to purchase a washing machine before, and want to do what I may to ensure a positive outcome. Does anybody have personal experience of this make/model? Or can offer any recommendations for one more suited to my girlfriend’s needs?
Her needs in summation –
- Capable of ‘two person’ loads, two-three times per week[/*:m:2decq58v]
- Circa £200 (or less!)[/*:m:2decq58v]
- Efficient[/*:m:2decq58v]
- Reliable[/*:m:2decq58v]
- Quiet (she lives in a third floor flat, with neighbours above and below)[/*:m:2decq58v]
😀 Any and all help really would be much appreciated – please advise if there’s any other information I could provide that might be useful…
Thanks,
Will

Hi Will
That’s about as good a machine as you are going to get anywhere. The two year guarantee is a bonus as well.Yes it is the entry level for Bosch but with good care checking the filter at least once a week and performing a maintenance wash weekly I would like to think you would get a good five years from it.

Hey Don,
🙂 Many thanks for the quick and helpful response! I’ve just ordered it now, so fingers crossed this is indeed the correct decision…
Hope you’re having a great day,
Will
