Had a zanussi a while back (zwf1627 iirc) which would abort the wash 22mins into the cycle, and the motor became very warm to the touch. Well in the end we repaced the motor, and 6 months on its still fine.

Any how, Got a 8kg Whirlpool AWO/D AS128 its about 8 years old as it was put in new with the house, but unused until house was sold about 4 years ago, so has only been in use for 3-4 years, 2-3 washes a day, 3-4 days a week. *Cust does do all washes immediately after each other, so motor cant “rest”

its got a ACC motor (same as sole motor iirc) doing the exact same thing, 22 mins into the wash it would all of a sudden whizz super fast for 1-1.5 revolutions and then pause agitating. and then do the same whizz/pause until after 5th go it F:06’s (motor tacho fault)

What Im wondering is whether its possible to repair the motor as carbons are 75{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} full, tacho magnet and housing looks ok, multi metyer takes a reading, so im not sure why theres excessive heat coming from the motor, but pressuming its armature or windings related???

Any ideas or suggestions, replacing the motor is gonna cost £150, so want to avoid that if it isnt more than 80{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} likely, in case the zanussi repair was just a bit of good luck and a one-off…

have you checked the tacho magnet?

well its attached to the pinion, not really sure what else to check???

in fact after it abort f:06 this afternoon i tried it straight away and got the whizz/pause immediately, regardless of program. Anyway, allowed it to rest for an hour, not touched anything but started it up and its started as normal, and then aborted again with a whizz/pause x5 after 12 minutes. try immediately again a restart and it wont go, left it to cool for another half hour and its behaving again. Its definitely seems heat-related in the motor as each time the motor heats up and cools to normal

ok well just put the test load in for a rinse and spin after letting motor get down to cold again and it got thru 18 mins(display) into a 33 min rinse and spin prog before whizz/pausing again, (although real-time duration was actually 22 mins again)

just restarted the rinse and spin without the extra rinse, and it managed another (display length) 18 mins (real-time not sure) before slowing (5m left to go) and then sort of picking up for 1/2 second and thenslowing and then picking up again, bit like when a car is running out of fuel…?

Im still usure where the excess heat is coming from, and why its occuring. I cant quite work out how the tacho could be at fault when the magnet is still nice and tight on the pinion and receiver is still snugly in its housing, the F06 must be a symptom of something else, being flagged up due to the odd motor behaviour, which in turn seems to occur after it reaches a certain temperature…!!!!

Have you checked the loom and motor plug had a few instances of the wires breaking inside the insulation at the plug end. The f6 just means the pcb cant detect any current being drawn through the motor

yeah grndal, been out to this 3 times and couldnt find a fault so done all those basic checks, even pinching up the fem tags & zip-tying the motor terminal block together. Ended up bringing it back for further investigation, so as we had a quite afternoon booking wise today, we been playing about with it, and discovered the weirdness that, “from cold” the machine will only work for 22mins (real time) before going into a spaz.

as mentioned before, if you let the motor partially cool down (say for 20-30 mins) you get normal operation but for only about 10 mins (real time). Start it up straight away after F06ing and it will just spaz out immediately, and F06. Its got to be some form of resistance/heat issue. If it was a loose wire, or terminal block it would be more spurrious and random.

Cant find a spares listing for the tacho coil, does anyone know the part no for this model, or are they all the same for sole/acc motors, in which case I can use teh (probably cheaper) zanussi one. Still doesnt explain the “hot” motor symptom tho…
