This particular oven came to my attention as it was reported that it tripped the electrics, naturally I assumed it was the fan element as it’s very common but this one is fine and I noticed that the blue dotted thermal limiter was blown apart.
I checked for obvious faults with the element and stats but all seems clear, I replaced the thermal limiter. Meggered it, 1602mohm it came up which I thought that was very good.
I put it back in the unit, turned it on, the main oven came on with the fan and light even though the selector knobs are positioned off. The customer says that it was like that since day one, bearing in mind that she had it brand new and the oven is 18 months old. I explained to her that it is worth calling out CDA to get it fixed as it is under the two years guarantee. She came up with a story that her husband got it from work, blah blah.
Now I had the call last night saying the oven popped and tripped the electrics. I can’t help wondering if there’s a fault elsewhere, my gut feelings says the main oven selector switch being faulty or the timer.
I don’t particularly want to throw parts on the oven as I am not familar with it especially when it could have been fixed under warranty. I think it’s a case of her being impatient and I did warn her that the warranty may have been invalidated if I continue to fix the oven. Anyway, I am expected to be thorough on the job, the husband wants it fixed in time for his roast pork on Sunday. I doubt it will be fixed in time as I am on holiday from tomorrow till next Thursday and chances of having it fixed today seems quite slim depending on the outcome.
Oh, does anyone have access to the wiring diagrams for this oven so I can check it out?
