    Hi gang,

Really hope you can help us here as we cannot afford to be without a fridge….or buy a new one 🙁

Basically, we thought we were buying good quality when we moved into our house a few years ago…..but these Miele fridges don’t seem to be all that.

Its a Miele KF 8582 SD ED by the way. Lovely big thing…..way over our budget at the time.

This is our second….the first one failed after 2 years and I gave Miele so much grief they sent a second.

Now, 4 years on….the new one is broken.

Basically, we noticed a couple of days ago that the fridge didn’t seem as cold as usual and only then did we notice that the alarm light was on permanently, lit up red. No alarm sounding.

We then checked the freezer and everything was melted…we had only put a shop in on Saturday, a full shop 🙁 …we had lost the entire fridge/freezers contents…..gutted

Proceeded to empty the fridge….binning the old stuff. Once emptied, I had a good look round the back and while a bit dusty around the radiator and pump, nothing looked out of place.

Compressor started a few times while i was round there….housing was very hot but the radiator at the back was cold.

Pushed it back in and a few hours later its working again?

We had no faith in the fridge at this stage so stuck a fridge thermometer in and it was reading 3 degrees for a while, perfect. But, it failed again today, red light on…..temp of the fridge set to 3 degrees the fridge temperature is 9.5

Its basically a cupboard…….can anyone help us try and find this fault? I am quite good at fixing stuff, but I don’t see much to fix here….looks like a “replace bits” job but I need help working out what.

btw…contacted Miele the day we noted the failure for a call out and Miele UK and Miele Ireland can’t decide who should be looking after us (we are in Northern Ireland)…..utterly pathetic 🙁

    Please help gang

    Hi

It’s possibly the sensor but without seeing it we cannot be sure

    Hi Bryan,

Appreciate the response and I understand.

I have tried a complete defrost over the past few days, moreso out of good practice but upon starting it, the motor is turning on and off quite frequently with a judder when it does.

I also hear a relay pinging quite frequently.

We have bitten the bullet and arranged for a Miele engineer to call tomorrow.

I will report back with their findings in case it helps someone else

    Regards
    Andy

    Hi Andy

You do realise that it is a Liebherr fridge freezer as a base product ?

I do indeed buddy…..we originally set out for a Liebherr but I honestly preferred the look of this one.

Its sitting running now and the fridge temp hasn’t climbed above 19 degrees :/

The freezer isn’t frozen either, just cool…..I only occasionally hear the pump knocking and rattling when it starts and stops.

    gut feeling?

    Ok, Miele engineer just left……..puzzled.

Of course the fridge is working now but he did note the pump cutting out for thermal reasons, trying to work out why.

I remembered something and pointed it out to him…..might be nothing…..but we noted the interior light flash on and of and on again when the door is opened. Normally I would have thought a simple reed switch fault but it occurred to me that the fan also gets switched off when the door is opened, so this must be controller logic rather than an on/off thing. This behaviour all stopped JUST before we noticed the failure of cooling.

The engineer is going to order a controller board just in case but does this sound plausible?

Further update, fridge has failed again….red light on permanently and fridge temp has climbed to 8 even though it is set at 3.

Sitting here in the quiet (kids out…lol) its plain to hear what happens.

Quite frequently, I hear the pump starting and it runs for about 3-4 seconds, lets out a little rattle (sounds like wobbling on its rubber bases) and stops…..about 6-10 seconds after that, I hear a relay making a “plink” noise and that’s it for a while.

Seems like the pump isn’t getting a chance to cool anything tbh.

Quick update…..while the fridge is broken, here is a sound of the pump starting, stopping and then after a while, the relay “plink”…
