ParticipantHi. Sorry if this is in the wrong section, but as the nearest appliance is the washing machine I thought it relevant.
Our garden hose is taken from the cold pipe about 4″ downstream of the washing machine cold only inlet. When the washing machine is on and I happen to fill a bucket for car washing etc, I notice that it is rather soapy and slightly warm.
Looking at the washing machine plumbing there is no check valve on the inlet so I suspect this is the problem.
The washer works as expected (Samsung WF8602NGW)
Is it just a case of adding a NRV in the line before the washer intake?
Thanks.

Soapy water would be on the way out, not the way in.
The inbound water (plumbing being correct of course) should be the same water you’re drinking.
If you’re getting waste water into your normal water supply, I’d be calling a plumber. Now.

There is absolutely no way that the warm, soapy water from inside the washing machine can get anywhere near the cold mains inlet supply. ???

😆 Sorry, perhaps ‘warm’ was a bit of a red herring.
I think it was warmer than cold as the hose is laid out over 60m and when using it the weather is usually warm, so is likely just ambient.
The plumbing is 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} ok – hot, cold and waste wise and no other cold taps have the same soap ish tinge when the machine is running.
I read that water out of the machine drum can be siphoned back when a hose is used if no check valves are installed, which would explain a rise in temperature – but I can’t believe a modern ish machine wouldn’t have internal check valves to stop this happening.
Shall have a closer look at the water in the bucket when the scenario next arises.

Unless the water reverses the laws of gravity, that’s not possible.
NRT valves aren’t fitted as they gunge up with detergent residues etc and cause issues.

Even if all the hot water was poured or forced back into the drum under pressure there is no possible way under the sun that it could get back into the cold water supply.

This is a wind up?
The water left in your hose is heated by the sun and the suds are created by that warmth and a bit of detergent left in your bucket. -
