ParticipantRe: Beko Tall Frost Free Freezer Model TFF67AP
After a period of 18 months I noticed the bottom removeable storage tray was sticking due to a build-up of ice at the bottom of the freezer. Following reference to other threads/posts on this site, I investigated and found that a black rubber cap was fitted over the drain hole above the drip tray. It could not be seen without kneeling down so I was not aware of cap’s existence.
I have studied the user manual which does not make any reference to the cap. The only item to be removed prior to turning on the freezer are transit protectors/ polystrene blocks above the compressor. I have complained to BEKO who the replied that the supplier [AO On-Line] should have told me about it!. However AO delivered without installation.
I have now removed the cap and all the ice without having to defrost the freezer but the problem now is knowing whether the drain tube is blocked solid with ice ❓ ….. comments please.

First off don’t buy from AO and second if your worried about ice turn off the fridge freezer for 24 hours. That will clear it.

Thanks Simon. Currently have a packed freezer with £150/£200 of frozen food to eat B4 defrosting…doh!. What I need is an inexpensive ‘domestic’ local RENTAFREEZER service so I’m now going to search Google 💡

Having contacted BEKO regarding freezer ice build-up problem they arranged for service engineer’s visit as a gesture of good will. (appliance out of warranty)
The engineer has now been, identified the cause of the ice build-up and removed the ice which had built up in the drainage hole at the bottom of the freezer. Thankfully I no longer need to de-stock/defrost my freezer. 🙂The engineer said that as my freezer was installed in my garage which is ‘dustier’ than a kitchen, then each time I opened the freezer door, fine air-borne dust particles would bee drawn inside. During the 18 month age of the freezer this dust eventually mixed with the defrost ice/water and then slowly built up inside the black rubber valve blocking the 2 ‘very narrow’ drainage slots.
In order to prevent the problem reoccurring the engineer has snipped off the end of the valve to slightly enlarge the drainage slots.
Hopefully the engineer’s report/feedback will give BEKO the opportunity to modify the design of the rubber drainage valve.
Finally I must give BEKO 10/10 for excellent standard of customer service. 😀

Would think that there may be an issue with the defrost heaters, there is a drain heater & a evaporator heater and also sensors to control these may need looked at.
The cutting off of the end of the non return valve can cause the problem which you have had to be worse as water vapour from the drop tray on top of the compressor will rise up the tube and condense and eventually ice over, the reason there was a non return valve is to prevent that happening.
A trick i’ve used to combat over icing of drain tube is to attach a thick copper wire on heater and dangle wire down the spout, this prevents the build up of ice and allows water to drain away.June 21, 2015 at 10:03 am #428133jamct69

Most fridge engineers use this trick on frost free fridge freezers with rubber N/R/Vs fitted.
Saving any old fridge thermostat phials is perfect for this use.

ParticipantHi
I am new to this forum and recently came across these old thread. I was searching because we purchased a Beko FXF5033W upright freezer from our Currys PC World in August 2017. It is no longer under guarantee and until just recently has worked fine when it developed the same problem as described in the above threads. Ice developing under the bottom trays which we just chip away now and then.
In your opinion is this liable to be the same problem, and as we also have a freezer full of food which makes defrosting somewhat difficult.
Any advice would be appreciated.David
