    Hi,

The inner glass on my Smeg Opera A1A-5 oven shattered a couple of weeks ago. I had it replaced and this replacement shattered after less than a week of use!

I have had it replaced again and this time a new door seal applied. I’m nervous about using the oven again at the moment.

Speaking to several people, I have been advised that the oven may be overheating. I switched it onto the lowest possible oven temp and after 10 minutes the temperature light had not gone out. I’m not sure if this was long enough to get to the lowest temp (I don’t have a thermometer handy to check oven temp) but if it is would it suggest that the oven thermostat was faulty and the oven is indeed overheating? Surely it should have some sort of safety cut out for overheating before it got hot enough to shatter the glass?

The fan in front of the element is working fine. Not sure if this is a circulation fan or a cooling fan though.

    Any help appreciated.

    Thanks

Nope, not overheating I wouldn’t think.

Glass usually blows for the reasons set out here:
