Hi – I have a nearly 3 year old Bosch Dishwasher SMI50C0GB and get the E09 heater element error at the end of the cycle.

Everything look is clean, but is till wet.

Do I need to replace the heater element? IS it the same element for both wash and dry?

Is it possible the stuff is just looking clan as it’s still washing in cold water?

Don’t want to buy a new heater if that isn’t the problem as shouldn’t the error come up earlier in the cycle if it’s the heater when it is trying to heat water?

    Hope someone can help.

    Cheers… Nick

Your next move would be to check the element with a meter. Preferably a megger though a decent multimeter will suffice.

Heat pump failure is common especially if you don’t use salt in a hard waster area.

Hey – thanks for reply. I didn’t realise you had as thought I’d get an email alert. Really appreciate it.

I have a decent multimeter but am reluctant to take it all apart given it’s still sort of working.

Should I buy the part anyway?

    What else could it be?

Is it typical for the error code to only come up at the end of the cycle.

I must admit we don’t use salt as we use all in one tabs (don’t tell me they aren’t really all in one 😕

I think London water is fairly hard. We used to have a softener but it broke and couldnt afford to replace.

Would that happen in just 3 years?

A heater change is no easy task for starters. You’re not using the water softener pretty well guarantees the heater is a gonna. But don’t take my word for it, your best bet is to check it for yourself. Better still, call in an expert local engineer.

All in one tabs don’t do all ‘it says on the tin’. If so why would manufacturers fit fully integrated water softener systems in dishwashers? Hardness levels in London are off the scale hard.
