ParticipantHello
I have had the above Fridge Freezer for about 8 years and apart from the recall after about 2 years (Fridge cooling fan panel changed with modified part to include metal plate) it’s worked well. I noticed this last year that the centre strip sometimes gets very hot (over 40 degrees celcius and this happens intermittently. I checked the back and found the cooling fan for the condensor at the back of the unit was not starting when the appliance was turned on until about 5-10mins elapsed (condensor was very hot by this time). This heat is presumably passed to the white strip between the two doors.
I also notice that the temperature inside the fridge varies and today turned off the appliance (-18 and 2 degrees respectively on set display) but turning back on the display showed -13 and 4 degrees. When the door is left open the alarm sounds after a minute or so but the temperature on the display doesn’t change usually.
I have replaced the temperature sensor behind the fridge back cooling panel (was a little iced up with ice around the previous temp sensor in its black holder) but no ice on fan etc which seems to run ok. I put a digital thermometer to measure temperature by the lower internal water bottle and this drops to between 8 and 12 degrees (water not always cold).
I am thinking the main rear lower PCB is intermittent in operation given a system restart changes the temperature and the condensor fan problems starting?
Any ideas appreciated. The condensor coils are cleaned out every 6 months and the self-test showed no errors for info.
Thanks

The ambient temperature sensor under the top door hinge cover could be faulty if the condenser fan is not running correctly.

I lifted the freezer door hinge cap and see the white thermistor but disappears with a bundle of wires for the display panel down the LHS of the fridge. How to test though? I removed the PCB at the rear of the unit when cleaning and has code DA41-00388J. Would a suffix make much difference if replacing the board such as 00388A?
I was looking today and find both the freezer and fridge aren’t getting low enough temperatures with freezer showing about -16 lowest but currently -13 degrees (set panel to -19) and fridge 5 to 6 degrees (panel set to 1 degree).
The fridge is colder higher up also. The only thing I can say has changed recently is replacing the fridge defrost thermistor and did notice a little ice around the heater/evaporator behind the cover but not lots.
Tried altering the reference value (1) for fridge to offset temp by 3 degrees to no avail. Will have to remove evap cover and check for ice and seal again.

With a digital thermometer you may get false readings because of the defrost heater operation making the temperature fluctuate (the air in the freezer may go to -11c during this time as the fan circulates).
Put a glass of cooking oil in the middle of the freezer and one in the middle of the fridge. After 24 hours measure the temperature you have. This will give you an accurate core temperature. If the core temperature is near enough what it displays (it is not exact) then you are ok.
I am not saying there is no fault but I have known people to chase faults that aren’t there because of this. Your Fridge freezer may just be operating differently as it tries to cope with the weather of late (e.g. the centre section between the door and the condenser being extra hot as the hotter it is outside the hotter that will be to dissipate the heat to cool the appliance).
If you could do the above just to be sure of temps. that would help diagnose further. I would be hard pushed to remember the last PCB issue I had and the self test on the front is usually pretty comprehensive.

Hi. Thanks for the reply.
I was a bit pushed yesterday but put a cup of milk in fridge and changed offset for fridge to zero. Set fridge to 1 degree and checked it this morning to find digital thermometer showed 4.2C.
The cold water has been quite warm fairly consistently which is new and made be investigate further.
If I put into power cool the Temp on panel is neanr to drop to -4 but display stays at 1C or found yesterday (with offset of -3C) rise to 3C!
I find the fridge temp display to not reflect the actual internal temp and almost never changes if door left open.
May need to check the resistance of components from PCB cables and even test freezer (ice cube maker a pain to take out) What values for Freezer & Refrigerator we would be OK? Still to remove evap cover in fridge, busy busy.
