I have a whirlpool chest freezer afg6216-b model: C0214w s/n: 300907001681. I went out to get a few things out of it the other day and I noticed it was thawing out, it was still plugged in. The red warning light was on and no sound coming out of it. There is 240v getting as far as the motor, but that’s as far as I know and the capacitor seems to be ok, any help would be very much appreciated

Could be any number of things causing that.

    Thermostat
    Compressor relay/klixon
    Start/run capacitor
    Compressor

You’d need to work out which with a multimeter most probably but not so easy if you’re not comfortable with diagnosing electrical components. There is no magic bullet I’m afraid.

It’s not the thermostat or the capacitor I tested them, so it must be something to do with the compressor, there’s no noise or humm off the compressor. I don’t know too much when it comes to that. How would I test it?

It’s on or off with an earth on it. 😉

I’m just after testing the compressor and I’m getting 0ohms across them all, is that a problem?
