ParticipantI have a Samsung SR-L39 fridge / freezer. We are based on an off-grid location where because of work to the hydro scheme we have to have zero power overnight. This has I think led to problems with the unit.
Both the fridge and the freezer are running warm, very warm and no matter what setting I use on the digital panel (Super, Eco, VAC temp range Freezer – 17 to -25 and Fridge +1 to +6) thwre is no cooling whatsoever.
Is this likely to be a fault with the condenser or with the digital circuit board..?
I can hear the condenser switching (clicking sound..?)
I have taken the circuit board out and checked the switches, they look (to me) ok.Any thoughts would be helpful

Possible..?
Any way of checking..? testing, other Signs…?
We are completely Off-Grid and also have no road access to property, only access is by boat. So getting an engineer to check both costly and not easy.
Although this is a 14 year old unit, it is in otherwise as-new condition, so would rather fix if possible rather than replace.

If your compressor is hot to the touch but there is an absence of cooling in your freezer compartment, then your unit has suffered a leak of coolant.
If your compressor is cold to the touch, and there’s power to the display/interior light, then there’s a whole host of possible causes.

It is/was hot to touch and certainly no cooling in either fridge or freezer.
What are the options from here..?
Thank you all for the feedback so far. Great forum, and very helpful one from what I read of others issues. 🙂

As Brian said a seized compressor is the most likely fault.
It is an engineers job to replace it, but as it is 14 years old I would say it is beyond economical repair.

Dependent on where you live determines the cost.
This is and was one of samsungs reliable models and probably why they stopped making it.

Which is why the environment is in such a state…

My nearest town is Mallaig or Fort William – any recommendations for local engineers..?
Typical of a manufacturer to stop making something… Our last fridge lasted 50 years! Then was replaced with this one.
