ParticipantHi,
We have owned a Hotpoint WMEF 742 for approximately 2 years. The machine has just stopped working with an error code of F12.
In the first year of ownership we had to call hotpoint about the same error code. They sent an engineer under warranty who checked the machine and as far as I remember pugged in a computer and reset possibly the pcbs. We hadn’t experienced any further problems till now.
I understand that an error code of F12 which apparently means – ‘No comms between cards. Check module connections. This is either a cable fault as indicated or a failure in one or two of the electronic control cards.’
1/ Is it possible for me to fix this and diagnose the faulty part? Has anyone else done this?
2/Where do I stand on warranty based on the fact that this problem has recurred.Any help would be appreciated.

After removing the mains plug you can try and tighten up the connector plugs between the pcb’s by gently squeezing them.
If the pcb’s are faulty then unless you have a company laptop or want to pay for a new smart card and card reader at around £130+ you cannot do that yourself.
The fact that you think it is the same fault would make no difference whatsoever but you are still covered by their five year parts warranty. Getting Hotpoint (Indesit ) ((Whirlpool)) to fix it for labour only is your least, worst option. 🙁

Hi Iadom,
Thanks for your straight forward reply.
Will I invalidate any warranty by opening the machine to check cable connections?
I thought it by be the case of having to going back to hotpoint. Just annoys me that there is a repetitive fault.
Thanks again

It is 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} Indesit with known dodgy electronics. Unless you actually break something then it should be ok to have a look and as their labour charge is £100+ they won’t be that bothered. 🙁
