ParticipantHello All,
This is a first post from a long time forum user.
I have an AEG Competence 51581 B built in dual oven cooker in white.
It is 17 years old and has given faultless service until now. The top oven element has dropped down and on inspection it appears that the oven casing itself has corroded away behind the self cleaning plate, allowing the two self tapping screws holding the element and plate to simply fall away. My question are:Is it likely that an oven casing is available as a spare?
How would you rate the difficulty of installing a new casing?
Would I be better advised to replace the whole unit considering its age?
The user manual states the aperture dimensions as; height 88.5cm, width 59.2cm, depth 56.3cm. Is this still a standard fitting or will I have to start resizing the carcassing for a new oven?
Do you have any recommendations for a new unit? (Must be white.)Please note that while I am handy with spanners and woodworking tools I am not a qualified electrician.
Your thoughts and advice will be very welcome: thank you in anticipation.
Regards,
Richard

Hi Richard,
The bits I can answer are as follows but I suspect you’ll have guessed already.

No.

Mad hard very often, one of the worst jobs to do on an oven.

Quite probably, yes.

Dear kwatt,
Thank you very much for your reply. I have decided to purchase a new oven. I think the new problem will be finding one that has a matching aperture dimension (especially width) as the carcassing seems to have been built tightly round the old oven. Additionally, many of the on line spec sheets on vendor’s adverts do not state accurate apperture requirements but rather appliance face measurements.
So, off to some shops with a tape measure then.Once again, thanks for your advice.
Regards,
Richard
