ParticipantMy dishwasher appears to trip the mains when: switched off at the machine, but on at the plug. Is that technically possible? It’s a long story over many months on logical deduction/testing which has led to this conclusion. It has been seen recently to spark at the wall socket, and may have resulted in cable damage in the socket (now repaired).however sometimes it works fine, no spark or tripping. Any thoughts. Ps I’m a qualified mechanical engineer and my son is a qualified electrician, so can complete any/most suggest tests.

The mains filter (adjacent the mains terminal block inside the dishwasher) has blown and needs replacing.

Thanks for the advice. Can I just check a problem with the mains filter could present as an intermittent fault. And this could by pass the on/off switch on the door control panel, to trip the mains even if that switch was off.

If you take right hand side off you will probably see the casing to the suppressor cracked and black. Very common fault, have replaced 2 this week

Martin/Andy, many thanks. I’ll check over the weekend. Hopefully this will resolve a long running mains electric tipping issue for me.

The filter looks very black and sooty, and casing cracked. Nothing else in the vicinity has obvious arching symptoms. So I will place and order for a replacement. local dealer suggested I could temporarily bypass the filter so the machine can be used in the interim. Seems reasonable idea?

Bad idea. You can get a new filter from Bosch’s own website very swiftly. Leave messing with it until you have the correct replacement. A day or two with Marigolds won’t kill you whereas messing with the mains and buggering it up just might! 😉
