ParticipantThe above dryer works fine for about 20 mins. then empty water light comes on and appliance continues on but no heat.Customer leaves it for a few minutes and (when empty water empty light goes off) it will run for another 20 mins. Not sure if this is relay, timer or stat problem.Similar posts have not mentioned water empty light or operating but no heat.
Ser. No. 02100489400.Any help or advice would be most appreciated.

I think it’s almost certainly stat related Bryan.
If the relay were at fault the dryer would stop altogether.
There’s a “hidden” one between the drum front support and front panel as well as the two on the heater.

take of the r h side panel of dryer and check the float chamber microswitch…..which sits over the otherside of the motor….shine a torch in and you can just see it….also you will need to manouver a long screwdriver past the motor to push the microswitch float arm back down……cause of this fault…. when waterbottle gets full the floatswitch activates cutsout heater and puts light on at front of dryer….customer emptys the bottle but float switch gets stuck…remedy simply push float arm back down…….fault may re-occur but now you know

Oh dear funkyboogy!
No! No!….don’t waste your time by doing that, besides why?
If that were the problem and to do it properly you need to lift the drum out anyway. The “long screwdriver” can be well avoided simply by flushing out the drain plug at the back 😉
Dodgy diagnosis there my BG friend 😡

Martin, What`s your diagnosis and remedy to this fault please?
FB thanks for your input but pressing down float switch arm and hope for the best isn`t an ideal solution. This job is 20 miles out of town and I need to be sure of no recall.
Empty water light on when bottle less than half full.Dryer then continues but no heat.Since original post customer informs me that fault is intermittent. 😥
Thanks
Bryan

Bryan,
Having travelled 20 miles or so to the job, you don’t want to simply poke a screwdriver here and there anyway as you will agree
It is (as Dave said) most likely to be a Thermostat problem, either heater box stats or the exhaust in the drum surround 😉 In fairness to Funkyboogy and in partial agreement to his comments, you will need to check out the float switch, firstly by trying the drain plug, to see if it is clear AND that just a little water drains from it. (If it floods out then a complete strip down of the float unit the only cure).
If you were to spend half an hour on site, that would give you chance anyway to take it all apart, clean it, replace all the stats, and away, job done at a bargain price with no recall! 😀

martin ….my dodgy diagnosis as you call it, has cured many of these faults…drainging out the back will not resett the float arm…been their done it…remember i worked for comet and seen this and many other no heat probs on all gda dryers apps..their is an intresting tech bullitin doing the rounds with reguards to failing tocs on thesr models.. but i susspect a bit to dodgy for the UKW I T purests.

FB Thanks again for your input but when you say fault may recurr it is obviously worrying. Is the proper fix( ie no recurrence)as Martin suggests removal and clean of float chamber.
I have no BG issues and you can tell me the TOC info.

Update on this dryer fault.
Removed black drain plug and too much water came out along with gunge/fluff etc.Carried out repair as described by recall(above).Water bottle valve was gunged up so restricting flow of water into bottle and actuating float switch.Would have liked to remove float unit for proper clean but it looks like a time consuming task 🙁 .Does drum need to come out for this? Thanks to all who contributed and argued on this one. 🙂

Yes indeed to enjoy full access to doing a proper job of cleaning the float chamber out AND servicing the machine. As we would do in the trade for you if you where to call one of us out 😀

Martin, I don`t understand this remark as we are in the trade forum 😕
You might want to re-read post top to bottom.
As I said I would have liked to remove float unit but very small kitchen and customer on a tight budget(as usual) 🙁Bryan
