This oven is less than 2 weeks old.
First fault. Kept taking the rcd trip out after 20 mins or so. Service engineer came, took the back off and discovered a wire hanging loose at the top of the oven. One of those Lucar type hobbies. Put it back on and smiles all round and ovens tested ok.
Second fault develops later in the same evening. Using the top oven as a grill, on max temperature setting, with door closed as per instructions, after 20mins or so all the lamps and indicators go out and grill stops working. Top oven red mode selector light goes out, up to temperature or not red light goes out, internal light inside the top oven goes out. Looks completely dead. Do nothing for 5 mins and it all comes back to life of its own accord.
This new second fault has happened two nights in a row, the first time it happened the bottom oven was on and appeared to be working ok even when the top oven (in grill mode) was apparently ‘dead’. The second time it happened the bottom oven was not in use.
Service engineer coming again, but I would like to be ahead of the game when he comes. Losing faith in this oven/make/model. This is a brand new oven that replaced a previous brand new oven that had shelves sloping from right to left!

Most likely the overheat protecting thermostat (aka TOC) is activating. Maybe the cabinet cooling fan is not working hence not cooling and the TOC is doing its job as a result. Did you notice the cooling fan (at the top behind the control panel) is working?

Yes, the fan was working.
The service engineer came and after I described the problem to him he suggested a safety stat was likely to be the cause although he did not have one on him. He then witnessed the fault occur twice whilst he was here – after about 20/25 mins. On both occasions the fan kept working even though all the lights had gone out. He said if the safety stat had operated then the fan should have stopped too. We could hear the ‘up to temperature’ stat clicking as normal.
So, he was perplexed and agreed that I should have another oven, but subsequently this has been turned down by aeg who insist on parts replacement. Given the wire found dangling loose in the back of the oven last week we wonder if it has caused damage to some electrical circuitry that may be illogical to fault find?
An engineer will return on Tuesday with bits to fit.

Have you got enough ventilation around the cabinet as this could cause it to overheat.

The oven is mounted in what I would assume is a standard double height kitchen cabinet – mdf etc. Its sits on a shelf at hip height. There is a space of about 2″ above the oven which is partially closed off at the front by a decorative panel – but whoever installed it left a gap of about 1cm between the top of the front of the oven and the bottom of the decorative panel – it looks like it was deliberately left as a potential air vent (of sorts).
Of pertinence here is that the oven went faulty twice when the engineer was here and the oven was out in the open on top of his workbench – so the enclosure would not appear to be an issue in this case?

The engineer came and diagnosed a faulty upper heating element after it had warmed up a bit with his meter. He changed the element and the top oven function selector switch. He said the fan should stay on if the over temperature control operated which sort of contradicted the previous engineer. He would have liked to have replaced the OTC but did not have one.
He left and I tried the oven which failed again after 20mins or so.
Another service visit booked in again for this Thursday.

He came and changed the TOC and we have given it a good testing since and it has been ok. So, looks like that was it. Thanks to all here for your support.

Think I would’ve insisted on a replacement. Glad it’s sorted
