ParticipantI was asked to look at an old NEFF oven recently. The lady said that it wasn’t cooking her baking properly. I put a thermometer in it, tried it at a few temperatures and it wasn’t too bad, but she insisted I fit a new thermostat.
I fit the new one, I get a call a few days later that she’s bought a thermometer and it isn’t heating properly. I go back, stick in her thermometer and 2 of my own to get an average. I try the oven and it seems to be reaching temperature (about 20C out), but the thermostat has to click on and off a couple of times before it gets there. As far as I was concerned that was fine as the thermometers are mechanical and take a while to catch up and no thermostat is 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} accurate anyway, but she’s not happy.
Is this about normal for an oven? Can I do anything else?
thanks

I’ve had a lot of these the information you need is why is it not cooking right i.e. is it taking to long?
or cooking uneven or burning every thing?
a lot of neff ovens cook uneven if she is using shelf (2) as it blocks the air flow vents.
off what your saying in your post i suspect taking longer to cook i had one of these recently and the door hinges and seal was perfect the stat was good too.
neff give a 10 percent tolerance when testing there ovens in the factory, so if you had it set to 200c then 20 c out is within tolerence but the other point to note is that on the fan setting it should take approx 12 mins to reach 200c from cold….
the last one i tested ticked all the boxes but what i did notice was it took a lot longer to get to temp, a lot of neff users don’t preheat because they were told they don’t have to with this oven, what I’m trying to get to is the element is not glowing red or getting as hot as it should, bit of a lazy element i put a new heater ring on and i have never been back.
maybe worth going back and retesting noting the 12 minute rule
i hope this helps

Thanks for that.
I should have said the hinges and seal are fine despite being 15 years old.
I’ll try what you said.
