ParticipantHi all,
We have a Samsung RS21 fridge freezer approximately 7 or 8 years old.
It has developed a noisy fan on the fridge side and also the water dispenser had stopped working. I stripped it down as per a helpful online video, removing the top section with light cover and then the unit with the fan. I allowed the fridge to fully thaw by leaving it turned off for a 5 hours. attempted to clean the fan and put a little machine oil on the shaft of the motor leading to the fan and then built it back up. The water works fine now but the fan which appeared to be fixed for a couple if days has started being noisy again. It is a loudish hum with the fridge working which stops when the door is opened. As it comes to a stop it isn’t a rattle as if there is ice in there but more of a vibrating whir which comes to a stop with a noisy shudder when the door is opened.
I am guessing the bearing may have gone on the fan although there was a little play on the shaft when I cleaned and lubricated it.
There seems to be talk on here of either replacing the fan cover (with fan attached) to solve the issue although other people say to change the filament hidden behind the fan.
Someone else on a previous thread asked for the top 2 buttons to be held in for 10 seconds on the display screen which show a single horizontal line for the freezer and a single vertical line for the fridge, if this helps.
Is “evaporator cover” the name for this lower cover containing the fan with the words “Twin Cooler” written on it and should a replacement of this whole unit fix the problem? I read that there was a new cover available so I want to make sure i get the right one?So any advice confirming my diagnosis and suggested remedy would be appreciated along with the correct name of the part and the best place to get it from.
Thanks for your help, guys.

At the age of your RS21 it will need a new fridge evaporator cover.
If it has iced up again after one week you may also have a heater fault.
If you do not know how to test the heater, sensor , and thermal cut out then I would just replace the cover first to see if it cures the fault.
If the problem then returns you can by a complete fridge evaporator and swop the heater, the defrost sensor and Thermal cut out from the new evaporator to your evaporator in your fridge.
I would suggest it is best to have an engineer to fit the heater etc as if you damage the evapoator it would require a Regas and more expense.
You can purchase the Cover from the WTA Shop or Brian R600a FFR services you can PM him from this site.

Hi Bob,
Thanks for taking the time to help me with this. I will try just replacing the evaporator cover with the new fan as you suggest and hope it solves the issue.
Much appreciated.
