For a while now our KB4250 has been playing up. It cools but not always enough. Initially I thought that the fan or a temp sensor was at fault, but both fan & sensors checked out and conclusion was that the control board was at fault. This has now been replaced without changing the symptoms. My current thinking is that it is probably something to do with the ‘defrost cycle’ because it sometimes gets into a state where it is working OK and then after a few days goes back into sulk mode. The most likely contender would be the heater itself and/or whatever turns it on. At this point 2 things puzzle me (1) how does the control board (at the top of the fridge) know what the heater at the bottom of the fridge is trying to do and (2) how you access the heater. All I see is a white cable disappearing into the back of the fridge near the drain hole. [Yes I read the term & conditions! A hint will do]. Or is it time to admit defeat?

I don’t know why I didn’t think of it earlier, but I am now monitoring the energy used by this fridge. I am getting a nice ‘compressor ON/OFF’ cycle. The fridge is ‘working’ at the moment and I am hoping that I get some more clues when it goes though a defrost cycle …

Top tip with Liebherr, everyone will ask for the service number as without it looking machines up is difficult to impossible. 😉

If anything will give trouble it’s likely to be one of the three sensors, one at the top near the fan, one on the light housing and one at the bottom of the rear panel, all three are this one:

Boards on Liebherr machines rarely fail, once in a blue moon type failure rate at best.

There’s no defrost heater so, it ain’t that. 😉

    Thanks for that advice Kwatt.

The cause now appears to be even more subtle – after tightening up the clips in the edge connector where the sensor(s) attaches to the control board and it has just run OK for over 2 weeks! Interesting that this could cause a misreading without getting the ‘open circuit’ error for the sensor. Anyway I have also bought a spare sensor just-in-case and continue to keep a close eye on things.
