ParticipantA friend in the trade told me this today:
The range of Hotpoint washers with the big door handles (such as WMYL 6151) will need the PCB reprogramming if you:
(Are handling a blocked pump or sump hose – stuck full of water, etc.)
1. Unplug from mains
2. Drain manually whilst unplugged (as you would!)
Apparently the level switch water level reading is recorded by the module, and does not reset. So when you try and re-start the machine it thinks it is still full of water….and only a reset of the damn PCB will handle that!
The workaround is to drain it whilst plugged in and switched on!
(I would think that manually filling it with water to wash level via the soap drawer before restarting might also sort it, but not tried that…)September 17, 2015 at 8:42 am #430354Martin

…..or maybe remove the air hose to the pressure switch, power up machine briefly so PCB records empty level. Then power off before tackling the blocked pump problem? 💡

so if the customer drained the m/c over the floor to remove a sock or colour catcher they would have to ring hotpoint to come and reprogram!I can see hpt engineers running all over the place.

And they would of course insist the customer buys their mouldy insurance…

these machines are a bloody nuisance I have hada couple of blocked pumps which ended up needing pcb reprogrammed there must be a foolproof way of avoiding this happening.

There are three possible solutions in this thread. If you try one and it works, post it here!

Almost getting to the point where faults can be programmed in so you have to get the thing reprogrammed at a cost (what a nasty thought but then again what about VW).Ive thought about this so I bet most of the major manufacturers have. As for Hotpoint another service engineer I met today put it in a nutshell -‘Flash looking machines with crap bearings and Mickey Mouse electronics’.Cant expect new owners Whirlpool will improve the bearings although they might have something to say about the electronics but dont hold your breath.

well with whats going on at volkswagen, i think hotpoint should think long and hard. to make a customer require a reprogramme for performing basic maintenance (filter)in a safe manner (unplugged)is bordering on criminal.
