Participantgot new door seal for washing machine not tell you how long i had to wait for customer to get it fitted finally got it fitted about 3 weeks later got back to me said machine was leaking.
got back to them said could not see the new seal leaking must be another problem. few day later got note through the door saying hole in the new door seal.and could i order another one.
got back to them left a message said it is unfortunate that something in you wash has damaged the new door seal and put a whole in it before i order a new seal i am going to have to ask for the money up front i will get back to you with the detail of the repair.
now i am thinking this is more hassle that it worth .
what would other engineers do thank fasetesterOctober 7, 2015 at 2:15 pm #430800stratfordgirl

I would have thought a free recall to check the seal would be reasonable if it’s only three weeks since you did the job. Obviously, if it is clear the customer damaged the seal, he would have to pay again if he wanted you to repair it again. Did you charge him up front first time round? If not, it could come across as obstructive to demand cash up front this time.
If feasible, pop back and check it for yourself. Otherwise, ask the customer to email a photo of the hole. Then you will be in a better position to assess the cause. For example, some customers notice the drain hole at the bottom of the door seal and assume this is the cause of the leak.

I tend to agree, did you have to wait a while after repair for payment ? I would’ve popped in to check it’s definitely the seal and if it is explain that it’s fully chargeable. Personally I would offer a reduced labour charge as a gesture of goodwill
You still get paid and the customer should be happyOctober 7, 2015 at 4:56 pm #430802fasetester

Thanks for the reply when I ordered the seal not joking I must had it for over 2 and half years when I contacted her month ln mounth out when she wanted it fitted all I got was the run around
I will call and if seal has a whole in it getting them to take responsibility for the damage is another matter.
She keep saying she has no money the repair was paid for by the man that lives with her
I would not usually ask for payments up front she said she can’t afford her phone top up so what chance she will be able be afford the repair

Go check. Wouldn’t be the 1st customer to notice the door seals drain hole and assume it’s the cause, then get overdramatic in the hope your insurance will pay for a nice new floor.

Is it a long way away is that why you will not go and look at it, if they have damaged the seal
Do job at a reduced price and take a deposit, if it’s a diffrant fault I would not charge labour after only 3 weeks unless it is their plumbing.November 19, 2015 at 3:25 pm #430805fasetester

If it’s a tear where it seals on the glass, this is caused by user leaving parts of clothing between
Glass and seal and when machine starts it pulls clothes in causing lip to tear.
So not a fault with seal but user not pushing clothes all the way in.November 20, 2015 at 10:22 am #430807Andy jones

I had one of the later Bosch machines where the customer did the same. Fitted new deal and 2 weeks later they did exactly the same. They knew it was their own fault so happily paid full amount again. Expensive lesson
